Buried in all the talk about completions and empowerment through education is our assumption that we know what the students ultimately want, even if they don't know themselves. And I'm not convinced anymore that we do.

One example (both you and I could provide tons more): Todd Lundberg, formerly of Cascadia, now studying at U Wisc, Madison, has been listening to a prof-tech program chair talk about the "jobbing out" phenomenon: adults come for a bit of training that allows them to get the job they want, then go away, maybe to return later for a bit more training to improve their skills and get a raise. What these folks want/need doesn't fit the AtD or any other current/popular definition of a "complete" education.robinjeffershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00980683722860639075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5184637762230200062.post-83087659259279562152013-02-14T08:33:44.817-08:002013-02-14T08:33:44.817-08:00I love this new approach to sharing ideas through ...I love this new approach to sharing ideas through the On Teaching and Learning blog. Several other colleges in the state have their own installations of ANGEL and may make different plans.

The following is from a frequently asked questions document sent out this morning, intended to help explain the decision to move WAOL from ANGEL to Instructure Canvas, "Q: Blackboard said on Monday that they would not end ANGEL. Why not stay on ANGEL?
A: Blackboard did not say how long they would support ANGEL, and we already know that they have stopped developing the product line. Higher Ed textbooks is a $10 Billion-a-year market and they want a piece of the action. I would be amazed if this saves students money… it will probably just shift some of it over to Apple (they keep 40% of everything sold through the app store). I hope I’m wrong, and maybe they will offer something of greater value like they did with iTunes U.Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05683536578212644982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5184637762230200062.post-91514124370064592292012-01-11T07:22:03.642-08:002012-01-11T07:22:03.642-08:00We are planning to explore most of these topics in...We are planning to explore most of these topics in our studio learning FLC.
